I completed my BA (2013) and MA (2014) in the History Department at the University of Sheffield, and my PhD (2018) here in the School of History at the University of Leeds (funded by WRoCAH). My research focuses on first encounters in the Americas (c. 1492-1550), exploring how indigenous groups and individuals responded to and identified Europeans in moments of early contact in the Caribbean and Mesoamerica. More broadly, my interests surround cultural encounters, the ‘white gods’, indigenous histories, concepts of space, and identity. I’m especially interested in cultural intermediaries, notions of ‘in-betweenness’, and methods for reading indigenous voices.
Any research projects I’m currently working on will be listed below. Our list of all research projects allows you to view and search the full list of projects in the faculty.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson demonstrated some dance moves outside City Hall when he joined Darcey Bussell and other performers to launch this year’s Big Dance.
“More than 68,000 people in 24 countries have already been showing their moves and with events across the capital, the UK and globally, 2014 promises to be another exciting year for the largest celebration of dance in the world.”

Big Dance 2014 is recruiting for volunteers to help out at a variety of Big Dance events throughout the summer. Volunteers are sought for the period 16 May until 31 August, although the festival week from 5 – 13 July is really when most volunteers are needed. Opportunities include event planning, marketing and promotion, backstage and technical support, ushering for events, costumes, props, and more. Big Dance is hosting a training session for prospective volunteers on Wednesday 21 May, 5pm-7pm at City Hall, The Queen’s Walk, London, SE1 2AA.
